This depends on your natural hair type and style. Ideally, you will have a minimum of 3 inches hair growth for dread installation.
-
When installed and maintained correctly, dreadlocks should not cause damage to your hair.
At LOCt we use a gentle crochet method with no wax or chemicals. Proper installation, regular care and a maintenance routine suited to your hair type are key to keeping your dreadlocks healthy.

Permanent dreadlocks are created using your natural hair, with the option of adding human or synthetic extensions for extra length and volume. They are designed to mature over time and require ongoing maintenance.
Temporary dreadlocks are pre made extensions, double ended or single ended, and braided into your natural hair without permanently dreading it. They’re a great way to experiment with different lengths, colours and styles without the long term commitment. These can be removed and reused, making them ideal for anyone wanting the dreadlock look without permanently changing your natural hair.

Installation time varies depending on your hair length, thickness, and whether extensions are being added.
During a consultation, an estimated timeframe can be provided.
-
Human hair extensions are soft, flexible and behave much like your natural hair, offering a realistic look and feel. Available in a wide range of tones, they blend beautifully with your existing hair and can also be dyed if desired.
Synthetic hair extensions have come along way, with modern fibres closely mimicking the appearance and feel of human hair. They’re light weight, available in an extensive range of colours and offer a more affordable alternative. Unlike human hair, they cannot dyed with conventional hair colour.
Both options can achieve beautiful, natural looking results. The best choice depends on your preferences, lifestyle and budget.

At the beginning of your dreadlock journey, it is recommended that you make an appointment for maintenance after 6-8 weeks (post-installation), most dreads need regular maintenance every 3-6 months after that.
The frequency of dread maintenance depends on: personal style and preference, lifestyle, and at-home maintenance. If you regularly wear a helmet or swim often, you may need more frequent appointments for maintenance. You will receive post-installation and care advice after your first appointment.
